People’s Theatre Collective secure ‘Revolutions’ Project Funding from Arts Council England

I’m delighted to share that People’s Theatre Collective has secured two years of funding from Arts Council England to deliver Revolutions, a major new phase of our theatre-making work with young people in Banbury.

This moment has been over a year in the making. It’s grown from listening deeply to the young people and communities we work alongside and shaping a programme that reflects their voices, ambitions and lived experiences. It also comes at a pivotal time for the organisation, as we continue to develop new youth-led creative spaces in partnership with Castle Quay Shopping Centre, creating places where young people can explore their creativity, collaborate and feel a sense of belonging.

Revolutions is about young people leading the cultural life of their town: co-creating bold new theatre, developing as artists and leaders and building a more inclusive, connected community through creativity.

We’ve now begun the casting process and the first phase of devising, working alongside a brilliant group of collaborators. As well as co-leading this process with fantastic creative colleagues, I’m delighted to be directing our first fully co-created production, which will be performed at The Mill Arts Centre in Banbury in August, with further members of the creative team to be announced.

Tristan Jackson-Pate

My name is Tristan Jackson-Pate and I am a theatre maker.

I’m originally from Stroud and first found a place of belonging in a youth theatre, which changed my life. I went on to train as an actor at the Royal Birmingham Conservatoire, and now I find the most joy in creating professional theatre with and for young people.

Since 2015, I’ve been Artistic Director of the award-winning People’s Theatre Collective in Oxfordshire. I’ve also worked in a freelance capacity with wonderful organisations like Creation Theatre, Oxford Playhouse and The Belgrade Theatre, Coventry.

During ten years as a writer, director and facilitator, I’ve written nine plays, a short film, and facilitated inclusive community arts projects in creative writing, devised theatre, and music composition with diverse participants. My freelance writing includes children’s stories, song commissions, educational videos, and sightseeing tours.

I’m an Associate Artist at Royal & Derngate, Northampton, a past Associate at the Old Rep Theatre, Birmingham and a Mentor Director for the National Theatre Connections programme.

As a trustee for Sophie's Silver Lining Fund, I’m committed to creating inclusive, youth led spaces that empower young people to discover their potential no matter their background. A drive to reduce inequality and champion fairer opportunities underpins all my work.
