my name is tristan jackson-pate and i am a theatre maker
I’m originally from Stroud and first found a place of belonging in a youth theatre, which changed my life. I went on to train as an actor at the Royal Birmingham Conservatoire, and now I find the most joy in creating professional theatre with and for young people.
I’ve been lucky to do this as Artistic Director for the Award Winning People’s Theatre Collective in Oxfordshire since 2015, and in a freelance capacity for many wonderful organisations including Oxford Playhouse, Creation Theatre and The Belgrade Theatre, Coventry.
I’ve now spent 10 years as a writer, director and facilitator. I’ve written 9 plays, a short film and facilitated many inclusive community arts projects in creative writing, devised theatre and music composition with diverse participants. I also write for a variety of clients in other media, including children's stories, song commissions, educational videos and sightseeing tours.
I'm an Associate Artist of Royal & Derngate, Northampton and a previous Associate at the Old Rep Theatre, Birmingham. Throughout 2025 I'll be a Mentor Director for the National Theatre Connections programme.
I’m also a proud trustee for Sophie's Silver Lining Fund, a foundation providing support to young people from disadvantaged backgrounds who wish to train in the performing arts. I think inclusive, youth owned spaces are so precious because they enable young people a fairer, more equitable experience, which doesn’t often exist for them in the wider world. A commitment to reducing inequality and ensuring young people from all backgrounds have the opportunity to discover their own unique potential underpins my work.
